We visited a couple local AOs with extra stops along the way. Mosey in an ESE direction toward Frye Hospital. Stop at the SALT Block for Staggered Arm Merkins x 10 each side OYO.
Mosey to ER site for Wide Arm Merkins x 10 OYO, Close-Grip Merkins x 10 OYO, Side Plank for 30 sec/ea side.
Mosey to temporary Howitzer site for Staggered Arm Merkins x 10 each side & Diamond Merkins x 10 OYO, Freddie Mercury x 20 IC.
Mosey through Square toward 127 Bridge. Stop at Fire Department for Carolina Dry Docks x 10 IC, Dying Cockroach x 20 IC.
Mosey up hill toward LR. Stop at parking lot for Wide Arm Merkins x 10, Close Grip Merkins x 10, Diamond Merkins x 10 all OYO, LBCs x 20 IC. Mosey on to flag. Circle up for round robin Mary until 6:15.
I forgot to do the count and Name-o-rama, but there were 9 Rammers and 3 Ruckers. They all have names.
WOD-
Choose to do the Hard Thing. My wife and I have a joke about her workouts. She says the instructor’s always trying to make pushups harder (like decline merkins, etc), and she always thinks “Pushups are already hard, we don’t need to make them any harder”. So all we did today were ‘harder’ merkins.
Why do we choose to do hard things like wake up at 5am for tough workouts? Why do we push our bodies to what we think are our physical limits? It’s because our bodies will be tested one day and the stronger and better prepared we are, the better we’ll endure those hardships and the faster we’ll recover from them. The same is true for our minds and our faith. One day our faith will be tested, and the stronger and better prepared we are when that comes, the better we’ll endure. I was reminded of JFK’s speech about the “Moonshot”:
“We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills. Because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.”
Choose to do the hard things for the sake of your body, your mind, your spirit, your relationships, and your work.
