QIC:  Band Camp

‘Twas the Arrow before Christmas, and all through the town,

several Pax were preparing for a 6 mile run-around.

Their stockings were pulled all up their knees,

In hopes the patella will stay where it bees.

With my truck on 6th Ave and I at the wheel,

I rounded the curve and was ready with zeal.

When all of sudden, there appeared in my vision,

8 blinking lights attached to Pax on a mission.

“Oh crap” I declared, as they passed by my side,

“I’m late to the Q! But its only 5 after five?!”

I pull into the lot and started fastening my vest,

when I was assured by Powder to wait for the rest.

And sure enough more gathered and soon began to stretch,

they said two groups run, the first is to catch.

So group two gathered around and then we counted off,

11 of us prayed, then we were off.

We ambled down 6th, with no cold that was blamed,

and I got to see how  Pit Stop got his F3 name.

A long way to downtown, a wiggle, then a turn.

So few miles I run weakly, my legs began to burn.

The pax gathered round Cuz as he set the pace,

or at least that’s my best guess as they left me in my place.

“Man I am slow, now.  I used to be faster”

“Go on ahead” I told Squints, but to him it didn’t matter.

Squints decided to hang with me, in the back of the pack,

He kept up the conversation to help the time pass.

He drug me downtown, pass that loud daily train,

and several times called “car back” to save me from pain.

He’s planning some races, and needs a new vest.

Say’s he’ll sign up for South Mtn, and ask his wife for the rest.

He grumbled about drivers with cell phones in hand,

“Safety first, not pride” keeps a man in this land.

And so he delivered me back to the AO,

a few tenths short of our goal, because I’m so slow.

The fellowship was worth it, I’m glad we didn’t sprint,

I’d have missed the man, the myth, the legend:  Jolly Ol’ St. Squints.

I enjoyed hanging with you guys today.  I need to make the trip across the bridge more often.

BTW:  I’m totally guessing on names and numbers.
