QIC:  Doughboy

YHC had the Q at Whipping Stick this past Saturday (yes I know the BB is late, but better late than never – like Cousin Eddie showing up for my Q).  Little did the guys know that they were going to train for a Spartan race.  The workout was a Spartan WOD and the PAX did great.  They could complete a Spartan race, no problem.

Warm up:  (in cadence, most 15 count)

SSH; Humpy; Butt Kickers; ATT’s; High Knees; Little Arm Circles

Workout:

Once done with the warm up, PAX moseyed to New Hope parking lot.

Part 1 – PAX were to do 3 rounds OYO

30 Mountain Climbers (each leg); 15 Burpees; 5 Pull ups; 15 Jumping Squats (had to substitute these since there was no good wall to use at New Hope); and 30 Merkins.  Complete one round and run a lap around the church. Rinse and Repeat 2 more times.

Part 2 – Original plan was 4 corners in the big New Hope parking lot with Bear Crawls from the center to each corner, but YHC was under some time constraints as he was helping roof an elderly person’s garage with the youth from the church.  Instead of bear crawling to the corners, we slow moseyed.  All exercises were again 15 count.  Corner 1 was a side plank with a lateral raise holding a brick, both sides.  Corner 2 was a regular plant with a rotation (think swinging your arm up to the sky while holding a brick in the plank position), both sides.  Corner 3 was Werkins (wide arm merkins).  Corner 4, last but not least, Ranger Merkins (think tricep pushup or hands under your rib cage).  Once done with this, head back to the shovel flag.

COT/WOD

WOD was about courage.

I press on toward the goal for the prize
of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus—Philippians 3:14

In some respects, we know the men we’d like to become. For one, we’d like to be courageous for God, not simply surviving these lives, but living boldly in them. Well, we absolutely can (Romans 8:31-39). The thing is . . . it’s hard. We’re easily distracted—by our drives for achievement and advancement and accumulation. And we’re easily made afraid—that we’ll be embarrassed if we act boldly for God; that we’re not qualified to stand with him; or just that we’ve never done it before and don’t know how to start. Yes, it’s difficult becoming courageous and, actually, it’s meant to be.

God didn’t create two types of men—some cowardly and some courageous. No, he leaves the cowardice/courage decisions to us. That said, we cannot simply choose for courage and instantly become courageous any more than we can instantly become . . . say . . . orators or outdoorsmen. If we want to become either of those, we must practice. We must start small and fail and succeed; we must work and learn. So it is with courage. We become courageous men by practicing courage, by accumulating experiences, small at first, of actually being courageous.

So, there are two types of men, but it’s those willing to practice and those not, resigned instead to lives of safety. The good news is that becoming the former doesn’t require an inordinate amount of time or a major lifestyle change. It just takes a bit of resolve.

Had a great time leading the 4 other PAX at Whipping Stick and it was great to see Bing back the day after returning from China.  Lots of interesting pictures of his travels.
