Following Spokes’ exhortation to me to actually post for Stargate rather than run hill repeats mid-day, I mentally prepared to join in for the mornings festivities. Little did he know that following giving blood a few weeks ago, I’ve been unable to run up (nor down, really) any hills. Friar put out a call for substi-q, and I saw my chance to keep things pretty easy if I made the route myself. I quickly volunteered before Swinger could do so and make his own route of lunge-walk repeats up Davenport hill.
Following two presses of the snooze button, my wife “gently reminded” me that, if she “heard that danged alarm one more time…!” The end of the sentence remained unspoken, but the meaning was clear. I’m up, I’m up.
I pulled in characteristically at 5:14:30, and off we go.
The route:
North on Main Street to the greenway entrance
Down the greenway all the way to 64 (with the weird detour to avoid a maze of Kudzu from Harper to College)
Cross the street to go up the Google/Mall Greenway, around the paved section of the Baseball fields
Left on Mulberry to College, quick right to up and down Rectory and back to the AO on Harper
Final distance: 5.03 on Spokes’ watch. 4.84 on mine (crap I’ll have to run an extra block to hit 5.06)
Moleskine:
- Friar, we love you.
- Bismarck is a madman. Ran SBR last week and is already back to just about full fitness.
- The Bear seems impossible and, like, a really stupid race, and I hate I missed it.
- Giving blood seemed like a good idea at the time.
- High School referee pool is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.
- Kickstand is leaving to join the Steeplechase team.
- It’s like the City board of parks and rec is really just letting things go. We should get someone we know on there.
- Baseball fields have a delicious chemical fragrance. Were they sprayed this morning? (no. see above)
- I can’t breathe.
- Was that a deer or a bear? I hope it was a bear. Just take me out. Or, do you think I could ride a deer back to the AO?
