After praying all week for inspiration for my Q Saturday, God amply provided not only a devotion to share at the end but the theme. Goodwill decided to post a picture of a scrawny German sporting DFB (Deutscher Fussball Bund) soccer gear from decades ago. The stage was set. We started the workout with a disclaimer that if anybody got hurt they would have to help themselves to the car. Thanks to the prayers Bismarck and I were able to participate today. Goodwill was finally able to get the shovel for the flag into the ground and I spoke myself right into a couple of jokes.
Warm-Up
Side-Straddle Hops, Imperial Storm Troopers, Arm circles and Alternating Toe Touches
On the mosey, I started sharing important World Cup 1990 trivia because the jersey that the scrawny German was wearing was from that year. We also made sure to avoid and dodge traffic from the ACT test given at the school. As if the mosey was not hard enough, we added some planks, superman’s and side planks.
Finally, we arrived at the rocks and started doing balance upper body work. The PAX got some well-weighted rocks to help with our strength training:
Upper-body with lower balance: 1-leg bicep curls, 1-leg shoulder presses, merkins and tricep dips. (Swinger helped me realize that this was too easy, so we rinsed and repeated)
We continued to the track and did another mosey/planks/supermans/side planks repeat because we did not want to be a scrawny German national team fan. I also shared with the Pax the final rounds of action in the 1990 World Cup.
Lower-body: On the stadium steps, we did strong hops up to the next plateau alternating pistol squats and calf raises. We did another round to get even stronger.
We returned to the Tennis courts as I shared my memories from the World Cup final and did some stretching. Stretching is always good at the end of these workouts.
For COT, we got on a more important topic than learning German numbers or about any world cup. I shared a story from my devotional about a pick-up soccer game that went awry because of lack of control, rules and discipline. The game became enjoyable after the actual referee for the game showed up. He showed the players the boundaries, people stopped getting injured and the game was played within the rules. Life is much like this. God gives us boundaries to live by and commands us to follow His rules. However, He commands us out of love. I did not share a particular scripture but reminded the Pax that God’s commands and ideas that should discipline us are all over the Bible. We Name-O-Ramad gave announcements and praises for prayers answered and then prayed.
Grout out!
