ER is always a pleasure to Q.
YHC was looking forward to this one and wanted to bring a little fun to the Monday morning gloom.
After kicking around a couple ideas, here is what took place:
Warmup
The usual, SSH’s, Storm Troopers, Humpdiddles, etc.
Mosey to the corner of Wells Fargo, grab a spot on the ledges for some dips and then some decline merkins.
Mosey to the opposite corner of the block in front of the 24 hr. cleaners at the bottom of the hill.
Started a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors and the rules were as follows:
Round 1
SS win = 10 merkins
Pax win = 10 jump squats
Tie = 10 burpees
after exercise run to the top of the hill and back.
–Round 1 SS victory, 10 merkins–
Round 2
Same thing x20 reps
–Round 2 Tie, 20 burpees
Round 3
Same thing x30 reps
–Round 3 Tie, 30 burpees–
Intermission = Sprint to top of hill, mosey back
Round 4
(At this point Kapowski and Publix were doing math and spreadsheets to figure out the algorithm of YHC’s Rock, Paper, Scissor tendencies)
SS wins = 40 rbc’s
Pax win = 40 big boy situps
Tie = 40 jump squats
— Round 4 Pax win, 40 bb’s–
Round 5
Same thing x50 reps
–Round 5 Tie, 50 jump squats–
Round 6
Same thing x60 reps
–Round 5 Pax win, 60 rbc’s–
Intermission = lunge walk/sprint to top
Round 7
SS wins = 70 lbc’s
Pax win = 70 American hammers
Tie = 70 squats
–Round 6 Tie = 60 squats–
Round 7
Same thing x80 reps
–Round 7 Tie = 80 squats–
(that’s all from memory, so I’m sure some of it is falsified but as accurate as YHC can recall)
Time was running up, mosey back to flag.

Word of the day is about Accountability:
Some of you may have heard that YHC got lost last week while running Arrow. It’s true. If getting lost wasn’t bad enough, afterwards came the shaming of getting lost while also being in a profession that should prevent situations like that.
Last week as YHC started up the truck to head home from Arrow, my phone rang. It was CrossStich. He was calling to see if I had made it out alive. (and maybe to rag me a bit about my navigational skills) Caboose was along on the run and slowed up to keep me moving. HBC and Herniator went out on search party when we didn’t arrive at the flag. All these HIM, looking out for ol’ Shorty.
After YHC hung up his phone (that has maps and navigation but wasn’t along for the run earlier) I thought to myself; “Why am I like this?”
You see, YHC has and is aware of a character flaw. YHC likes to act first and listen/pay attention second. I blast off to begin something and take pleasure completing things sometimes before I understand the full set of directions. I’ve been that way my whole life and as I drove home that Wednesday, I pondered why.
As the pondering took place, I had an epiphany. A humbling realization about how blessed I am.
You see, my whole life I’ve had other people around me that cared enough about me to keep me from getting too far off track, lost, or in trouble. I grew up with older brothers who would reign me in if I headed the wrong way or got off track. I had accountability from my brothers, my friends, and later on my wife and coworkers. For this I have been blessed. Where would I be without their accountability? How far would I have gone in the wrong direction?
There are two sides to accountability. There is holding others accountable and there is being held accountable by others.
Being held accountable is hard. (sometimes embarrassing)
It is human nature to NOT want to be held accountable. It is human nature to want to keep things easy. It is human nature to grow prideful and defensive when being corrected. It is human nature to NOT take responsibility for the path we have taken. Sometimes when being held accountable we will tap out. We will run away. We will give up. We will quit.
Iron sharpens Iron.
Accountability is what we have to stay sharp. Each of us has to not only be accountable to others, we have to hold each other accountable. Your PAX need you to keep them on the right path. Your RED X may seem mean but it’s needed. Your voice of truth may be uninvited but it is necessary.
Make it your mission to be held accountable and to also hold those around you accountable. Iron sharpens Iron.
See you boys in the gloom!
