4 brave souls decided to venture out on this foggy, somewhat humid (early reminder for summer), and moist morning.  Other than being damp, the weather was nice with temps in the upper 40’s.  YHC rolled in just before 5:30 to see the other 3 PAX eagerly awaiting the beatdown.

The Warmup (all in cadence):

SSH x 5

ATT x 15

Forward Arm Circles x 12

Overhead Claps x 12

Reverse Arm Circles x 12

Humpies x 10

The Thing – Mosey to the Walgreens hill for the first part of the workout.  I had this idea for a merkin – plank jack combination so I looked at the Exicon to see if there was something like what I had in mind.  Turns out there is a Merkin Jax exercise, but it’s not exactly what I had in mind.  Seeing that there was already an exercise named Merkin Jax, we had to come up with something else.  After demonstrating the move and brief mumble chatter, it was determined to be the Flying Squirrel.  What’s a flying squirrel you say, well glad you asked.  Start in a plank position, and jack your arms and legs out and do a merkin then bring arms and legs together again in the plank position.  Think combination Wide Arm Merkins and Plank Jacks.  Now that the PAX know the move, we did a ladder on the Walgreens driveway hill – 10 Flying Squirrels at the bottom and 1 Big Boy Situp at the top and so on.  Once we finished this, we returned to the block pile for 1 minute of work for different excercises with a 15 – 20 second break in between.  Exercises (all with blocks) were Curls, Overhead Press, Squats, Block Merkins, Single Leg Deadlift – Left, Single Leg Deadlift – Right, Bulgarian Split Squat – Left, Bulgarian Split Squat – Right, Bent Over Rows, and Tricep Extensions.  Look at the time, we had one minute to spare to put up the blocks and return to the flag.

COT/WOD

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest—Matthew 11:28

“He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness” (Psalm 23:2-3). How does God restore your soul, brother? Where do you find rest? How are you most able to forget, even for a few moments, the pressures of this life? Where do you get reset and realigned? How do you connect with God most easily? Where are you most able to hear his voice or feel his guidance?

Is it in praying at your breakfast table in the early morning, before anyone else wakes? Or in reading Scripture on the treadmill or in your car over the lunch hour? Is it in a few minutes of stillness and solitude in the evening? Or in boisterous community around a table, with brothers or with family? Is it in walking or running or biking through streets or through hills? Is it in listening to music? Or in making your own music, singing in church perhaps? Or in something else entirely?

Recognize that God designed you, uniquely, to have ways—even amid the busyness—to find him, to find rest and restoration through him. You were designed to, every so often, just come home. So open your eyes. Search your heart. He has, no doubt, already shown you how.

We all get so busy that we don’t take for rest, but not just a physical rest, a spiritual and mental rest.  I get that in the early morning workouts with my fellow PAX as well as taking time out during the day for a few moments of quiet time.  We all need it so make sure that you are doing it.

Great seeing the 3 other PAX out this morning and thanks for pushing me to be better today than I was yesterday.
