Weather: 45’ish.
Thang:
Warmups. At least one dude was spotted trying to stretch out his Piriformis during warmups.
Then take off for a 5K: down past the Elk’s Lodge to 4th St, right at Oakwood School, up Hospital Hill, straight to LR/Stasavich Place, right around LR, back to downtown.
The remaining time we did Raffle Carries…..no sorry, that was another famously mispronounced exercise by Ferd. This time he called for Tabitha’s. What he meant to say was Tabatas. Squats, Burpees, Hand Release Merkins, and Lunges. Each for 30 seconds w/ a 10 second rest until 2 minutes left. Then we did his horrible Plank Circle And One Dude Does Merkins exercise.
WOD/Announcements/etc
Naked Man Moleskin:
- NMM is a thing. Back in the day when all regional backsplashes were posted to the F3 Nation’s site, that was what the end of a BB was called. And now you know.
- “Knowing is half the battle” – Duke/GI Joe
- Unnamed pax had to stop at LR to Drop a 2. I’ll give you one guess who that was .
- Pump
- Fast dudes run somewhere around a 7:15 – 7:30/mile clip. This impresses me.
- Road going over 127 bridge is on lock down….or so they thought. Ferdinand and Your Boy looked like we were reenacting a scene out of The Dirty Dozen. Hopping over the fences, scaling walls, and ducking under red tape….or to steal a quote from my old basketball coach, maybe we just looked like 2 water buffalos trying to climb a tree.
- DD is an old war movie. Check it.
- If you’re keeping score at home, that’s the same coach that would always reference messing up a circle jerk
- For the record, I have not, nor intend to attend a CJ anytime soon.
- This idea of running a 5K followed by bootcamp stuff was spawned from a conversation by Ferdinand w/ Burns who is a Winston Salem pax that has in laws in Hickory and posted with us for a week or so. Ferdinand thought it would be a good idea to get some more attendees to Howitzer. Seemed to work. Thanks for stepping out there and leading something new.
- And that’s the cool thing about F3. If you’re a Site Q, no one is going to stop you from trying out something different with your baby. If attendance is down, try something out. You’re Freed to Lead, folks.
- Now don’t all crazy and start inviting your M’s to join you, or something that doesn’t follow the 5 Core Principles. Outside of those rules, you’re good to go. Don’t be bashful, try it out. OG has changed formats about 30 times now, and I look forward to V31 somewhere down the road.
- I love Strava’s segments. I guess it’s tied to my love of maps…yeah, I’m a nerd like that. Anyway, some may see this as appropriate, but for some reason, I have the record for fastest time one near downtown called the Bathroom Sprint. It is clearly from a glitch because my apparent pace was something like 1:20/mile. Only thing I can think of is that I was driving with my watch on. Abraham has several segment records as well for the same reason. So it should go without saying: 1st Place to Number 2, B’s.
- Now my 2021 goal is to become the Local Legend of Bathroom Sprint.
