QIC:  Fuse

I generally don’t F3 on Tue/Thur so I was surprised to be asked to Q Howitzer.

I showed up early to get a lay of the land, I haven’t attended a howitzer before the great remodel of union square… spoiler, its the same, however, the cannon is on a pedestal, which Jordache so eloquently pointed out.

Started with a warmup, SSH(duh), windmill, humpys, merkins, probably other things.

Started with a warmup Jog, pronounced Yog, it’s a soft J, around union square and down trade alley, back to the cannon.

1st part of the workout was a 15 min circuit consisting of 10 merkins, 10 box jumps on the cannon pedestal, run to the corner of union square, 5 burpees, run back. Do as many as possible in the given time.  winner gets a special prize… (the prize is nothing)

2 rounds of dips and declined merkins in cadence to make full use of the beautiful pedestal.

Next we run to a church that’s way cooler than Corinth, 1st Presbyterian.  It’s a fact, look it up.  We stopped at the base of the large staircase, (little known fact, the middle stairway is heated in the winter so that people can attend church in adverse conditions even though church is nearly almost always cancelled in adverse conditions).  We did a blimp, travel up the stairwell doing a calf raise on every step, run down the stairs, run back up and back down, each round doing the corresponding workout in the acronym.

Mosey to the hidden playground, each person completes 10 pullups OYO… Skags slid down a slide into a substantial puddle of water, it was about 48*… he took it like champ.

Mosey back to where the flag usually is and did a few rounds of mary.  Ive been in F3 for nearly 4 years now and I still don’t know what mary stands for.  Probably something clever.  Clever to the core.  Core strength. MARY

WOD comes from a book I’ve been reading about the death industry and our cultures view on death in general.  An amazing author and book titled: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Other Lessons From the Crematory.  Seriously, a very important book, especially if you have aging parents.  Here’s one of many quotes: “Accepting death doesn’t mean you won’t be devastated when someone you love dies. It means you will be able to focus on your grief, unburdened by bigger existential questions like, “Why do people die?” and “Why is this happening to me?” Death isn’t happening to you. Death is happening to us all.””

I joke around a lot, but in all seriousness, I pray we all live lives so great and fulfilling that death is a reward rather than something to be feared
