Whipping Stick. I’m not sure who dubbed Hickory’s original AO, but I’m sure the name stems from Hickory…tree….stick…Whipping Stick. It’s not a bad name, and I only mention this in jest but I wonder if we should change the name to Members Only? It has clearly become the most exclusive AO in all of Hickory’s region. There are 3 regulars that will post come hell or high water there: Beaker, Doughboy, and Tooth Fairy. Then there are the semi-regulars that are there most of the time: Goodwill, Publix, Cousin Eddie, Flamer. Add in a random young’n from time to time: Billy Jean, Kapowski, Phlegm, Alexa, Gumby, Norm and there you go. That’s Whipping Stick.
I sound like a broken record here but the mumblechatter is out of this world. No other AO is even close. If you weren’t there, just ask someone that was what a Darth Vader is. HBC may even give a CSAUP point for that….
Warmups:
Super slow pace. No one was counting. 5 conversations going on at the same time. Most were funny. Goodwill saw a Lady of the Evening during his pre-run. Flamer ran over from his crib: SMR training. Tooth Fairy was late. Doughboy (or Dougboy according to Beaker) was really late. Doughboy is normally the color of 100# Bright White card stock, but today he was exceptionally pasty. Apparently he had to make a pit stop before posting. Dude, go home and call it a day.
Slow mosey around the parking lot and stairs.
Grab a block and meet on the 50’ish yard line:
50 block burpees on the 50 YL and 40 hand release merkins at the top of the hill. All OYO, break it up however you need to. LBC’s for the six.
More of the same: exercise at the 50/exercise at the top of the hill
200 bench press/40 squats
200 curls/40 star jumps
50 goblet squats
When you’re done, mosey w/ your block to the bottom of the hill. This was supposed to be the last exercise: lunge walk up the hill w/ the block over your head. Everyone but Beaker mutinied me on this. Something had to be done about that.
10 more block burpees
2 regular burpees (which is standard issue WS exercise by the way)
WOD: Not a specific word, but a word of advice: Listen to 3 podcasts: F3Nation/43 Feet/Pick up the Six. Every single one of these is good in their own way. Focused on one from F3 Nation called CSPAN talks 2019 Planning. Listen to it!

Post Q Thoughts to Self:
- still amazes me how few pax post here….looks over at the following: Powder, Powder, and Powder. Then gives the stink eye to: Kapowski, Taz, Hot Lips, Billy Jean, Igloo, Sleeper, Markup, Flex Seal, Freud, Peaches, HBC, Suppository….really too many to list. We had consistently more pax when WS was out in the boonies of CVCC.
- I remember having to carry busted up Taz for about 3/4 mile out there. Luckily he weighs Buck-0-5 so it was really like carrying 1/2 of a sand baby.
- I also recall someone making me belly crawl for about 400 yards through some mud and a hill out there.
- Speaking of sand babies, anyone know where they are? I miss them.
- Maybe they’re with all the missing pax?
