QIC:  Cropduster (always the WD)

The PAX arrived in this order:

  1. BandCamp – he was about ready to go home when he arrived all alone
  2. Cropduster – yes, he was on time – even a few minutes – even after driving part of the course to make sure he knew the turns.  (the things he does for the PAX!)
  3. Castaway – arrived last with 2 right hand gloves.  Oh Well, go #gloveless

CropADopolous read about the events surrounding the writing of the hymn “Blessed Be The Tie That Binds” back in 1782 and then he read and talked about the hymn.

Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne,
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
Our comforts, and our cares.

We share our mutual woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

It’s a simple, beautiful hymn that speaks to unity and love in the Christian fellowship.  There’s lots for us to learn today from those words.

Prayer Requests:

  • 17 year old student at HHS (Hickory) who has cancer

We prayed, we reviewed the course, we started our watches and apps, we are off!

Today was about Running Free.  My favorite runs are what I call Free Range Running where the runners take turns calling the next turn.  You never know where you will end up this way and if properly executed you will end up with the intended mileage.  We did NOT do Free Range Running today, but instead we opted for a flat course, we could have gone this way or that, we could have run around CBC clockwise or not, we could turn on Chestnut Street or not.  We could go FAST or we could go S-L-O-W.

With the lingering effects of my strained hamstring I opted for a 9:30 pace and settled in while encouraging my comrades to take off.  They chose freely to run with me.  Blessed be the tie the binds.  I chose to cross Main Street at Park Avenue while giving the PAX the freedom to stay on Main.  They chose to cross with me.  The fellowship of kindred minds.  I chose to touch Dry Ponds Road with my shoe before turning back as I have hangups about certain things, Castaway followed suit, Band Camp chose his own path.  But we shall still be joined in heart.  We ran through downtown and down to Concord Baptist and all 3 chose a clockwise run around the church.  Our aims are one.  We came back down Falls Avenue and Crop and BC turned left on Chestnut – Castaway headed back to the AO.  When we asunder part, it gives us inward pain.  BC and CD found the biggest hill of the day on Chestnut.  We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear.  We eventually made the turn and headed for home.  5.10 or thereabouts miles or pure, free, running.

Blessed Be the Tie That Binds!
