Thoughts on the 2018 CSAUP Challenge.

First of all, I love all you guys.  Every.  Single.  One.  Hopefully that’s enough of a disclaimer for me to make this statement:

It’s truly amazing how few of you actually followed the instructions, which were simple enough for 2nd graders or Western Carolina/ECU grads to complete.  Same thing.  Whatever.  They were, in order:

Do Something

Email Cousin Eddie about it

Repeat

Most of you did something like this:

Location – Somewhere in BFE South Carolina, during P200, Leg 20 going on 2 hours of sleep or on top of Grandfather Mtn after nearly puking because Your Boy here had just stolen Tooth Fairy’s soul (sorry, not sorry TF)

  • YOU:  Hey Cuz….chalk me up for a CSAUP point.
  • ME:  Follow the instructions and email me, will ya?
  • YOU:  Whoa – what?  You want me to actually follow instructions?  Don’t you just carry around a CSAUP notebook with you every day just in case I’m with you while I’m doing something CSAUP’y?  No thanks, that requires way too much effort
  • ME:  AAAAAAnd zero points go to ___________

Or another scenario that when down was this:

  • YOU:  You mean that I ran a half marathon and I only get one point?
  • ME:  Yes, it’s not a weighted event.  Plus, it’s not like you’re entering a contest to see how many points you can accumulate.  You just need 3 points over an entire year to qualify for a raffle for a sweet prize.
  • YOU:  That’s horse shit.  I’m out.
  • ME:  A.  B.  C ya.

Despite the infinite amounts of grief that I got for conceiving this wonderful idea (you’re welcome), I would say that it was fairly successful.  We CSAUP’d our butts off this year.  I’m sure I’ll leave some events off (see reason above about not emailing me as my legit excuse), but according to my memory we did the following events:

Tons and tons of miles rucking

Lots of Go Rucks – seems like Flex Seal alone did one per week

4 dudes ran a 50 mile race.  Each.  In the same day.

At last count, Hibriten Mtn was climbed a total of 30 times by only 9 dudes

Some climbed Pilot Mtn in a marathon

Some climbed Grandfather Mtn (Galloway Peak actually) twice in the same race

Several 50K’s in the books

Several did the vertical mile challenge

SMR, P200, BRR, and Tuna200 relays

Like i said, I don’t have all of the events listed above that we collectively did this year.  But dangit I’m proud of you.  And I’m taking full freaking credit for pushing all of you with this CSAUP Challenge.
