Hey Men, it’s Goodwill from Hickory here. It’s that time of year again when the Dads of F3 WNC think about taking the kids away for a weekend of Fitness, Fellowship, Faith, Fun, and too much soda/pizza/gaga ball. That’s right…Dad’s Camp! I’m the Master Q of Dad’s Camp this year, and we need to get busy so we can do this thing.

Where is it?

In Western NC, the last few years we’ve gone to Camp Grier in Old Fort, NC and it’s been awesome. It’s far enough away from the Hickory/Granite Falls/Boone region to be AWAY, but not so far that it’s a road trip. Old Fort is also home to Andrew’s Geyser…a manmade water fountain that shoots out of the earth. Check it out. And Hillman Brewing…

Camp Grier has campy-but-comfortable cabins with bunks to accommodate up to 100 PAX, a huge central pavilion for the pizza party/movie night, Dining Hall for meals on Saturday, a lake for swimmin’/fishin’/canoein’ with a zipline into it, hiking trails, waterfall rock slide, a big field for our 1st F (fitness) workout Saturday morning, pool for cannonballs, gaga ball pits, and disc golf course. The kids will wear.it.out. every day, and have a blast doing it!

Who is Dad’s Camp for? Well…Dads and 2.0s (kids). Sorry Mom.

Already an F3 regular? Great.

Never been to an F3 workout or event? Also great. You can meet a bunch of guys who get up stupid early in the morning back home to work out together, get to know each other, and encourage each other to be better men, dads, husbands, and brothers… We’ll give you a silly nickname that you may not want to repeat to your work buddies when you get back. Or maybe you’ll want to bring them to a workout so they’ll get a silly nickname too. Dads get to give their own kids a nickname.

Dad’s Camp is ideal for boys and girls 5ish-15. There’s a fair amount of walking/hiking, so kids need to be big enough to get around without you carrying them all the time. There’s also a lake (where PFDs are required for everyone anyway), and a pool…so knowing how to swim is good. But if they’re into playing, hiking, making s’mores, staying up late, sliding down waterfalls, and watching their dads sweat…it’s for them!

What all’s included?

All the gaga ball you can handle. Really. It’s a fun weekend with nonstop play and time outside. No screens, no school, lots of time to hang out with your kids and make lots of memories. The full weekend package includes 2 nights lodging, a pizza party Friday night, 3 meals provided by the camp Saturday, and tons of activities. We make s’mores and watch a movie Friday night. We do a big F3-style, but 2.0-friendly, workout Saturday morning. We hike to a waterfall and rock slide. We splash in the lake and line up to ride the zipline into the water. The kids always have a great time, and Mom gets a quiet weekend. Win-Win-Win.

How much?

The full weekend includes 2 nights’ lodging in bunk-style rooms, pizza party Friday and 3 meals Saturday, and all activities. That’s $125/person (Dads & kids are the same cost). If you can only stay 1 night, it includes all the above for $85/person.

If you can’t stay the full weekend, you can Day Trip on Saturday and eat the food, play the games, and have all the fun for $35/person.

If cost is an issue, we don’t want you to miss out! Message me at jondavid.ross@gmail.com or on Slack (Hky Goodwill) and we’ll work it out.

Registration deadline is July 15. So get busy! The link to register is below, and instructions for payment.
