Rolled up to the parking lot a little early this morning, guess I hit the lights just right? As I was sitting there along in the dark, it reminded me of the end days of HEMI back down in Hudson. That AO had started strong but dropped off very quickly when the first winter hit and never recovered. Unfortunately it got shut down before even a year had passed. That was the last time I had a no show to one of my Qs. Was this going to be another? NO WAY! The Lenoir faithful came pouring in; Hanger in vehicle and Bismarck on foot. Then PBR coming in late due to chili and IPAs for dinner….don’t ask. And as we circled up, we heard the familiar click of someone’s trick ankle…The Friar! With all accounted for, we got to it:

Warmup – do whatever you want IC. This was well received and a lot of variety was shown. But all of the PAX were incorrect because everyone knows you have to start with SSHs like YIC did. After I noted their failure, we got going.

The Thang – mosey down by the cornfields, stop at first road crossing. Merkins and Big Boys. Continue on Greenway to the bridge. Merkins and RBCs. Continue on until at the base of the Aquatic Center. Merkins. By now it’s only 5:40ish and a car pulls up and parks outside the gate. Mind you, the center doesn’t open until 6. Who willingly got up 20 minutes early to sit in their car to wait on the gate to get opened??? Weird. We run past that car, hop over the gate(or run around it if you are old!) and climb the hill. If you have never run the hill at the Aquatic Center….good for you! It sucks. About a half mile with about 3 different incline grades. Anyways, up we went. Of course I’m the only one sounding like he needs an oxygen mask as we come back down. Stop at the median for some V-ups. Then back along the greenway. Stop twice more; once for Dying Cockroaches at Friar’s request and one for some pull-ups. Finish up back at the cars for a nice 3.6 miles.

COT – All last week I spoke about Patience in the 3 workouts I led. This week, I wanted to be more positive. My son came home with a pile of rocks for one of those excavation kits. You would have thought he found real gold in there! He was so excited about the different colored gems and digging it out and using the little brush. I realized that this was a special moment because soon he will be too cool to get excited about something like this. The joy some colored rocks gave him was amazing!

So, my word was “Enjoy the moment”. We only have so few of these moments before the kids are grown and off doing adult things. Cherish these times while you can because they will be gone before you know it. PLAY WITH ROCKS AND DIRT!!!!

Moleskin

  • I need to do more cardio. Someone make me start posting at Stargate more often.
  • These fools in Lenoir can run. And yes, that includes PBR too.
  • Also, no more chili before runs for PBR. For Bismarck’s sake….
  • Hanger, PBR and YIC should have tried harder in college
  • Bismarck is determined to run through the corn
  • Friar is a beast and definitely didn’t rest during his hiatus. I think I got in worse shape during that time somehow???

Babyface out!
