Conditions: EARLY, FULL MOON and DERN COLD 21degrees at the start.
When I woke up this morning I really, really, really did not want to get out of the fartsack. Cooper, our dog was cuddling just perfectly and he and I had a thing going on. But I knew my buds would be waiting for me in the cold (would anybody actually post?) so I rolled out and eventually headed out.
6 other guys rolled up into downtown Granite Falls which absolutely made me day. OK, the day was still young so maybe there would be other “day made” opportunities throughout.
At SlingBlade we do the COT first so the guys can run short, run normal or run long and nobody has to wait on anybody.
Announcements:
- Hickory Region Convergence coming up on Feb 24. Banjo said, “Sign Up!!” Plus today is the last day for the Angry Preacher shirt order.
YHC read Psalm 51: 1 – 13 – A Contrite Sinner’s Prayer for Pardon. David penned these words after he had SINNED with Bathsheba. Go give it a read. It is contrite. The words are from the heart. Maybe they will speak to your heart today and offer you encouragement.

We’re Off!
This was a simple course from a simple mind – but right off the locals did not turn on Crestview like I had instructed. Do these guys not know the roads in their hometown? Siri recalcualted, we made the necessary adjustments and then we were off. Our Route:
- East on Falls Ave
- Right on Crestview
- Right on Chestnut
- Right on Main
- Left on Duke
- Stay on Duke down the looong hill through Rhodhiss
- Cross the bridge over Lake Hickory
- Left on Catawba
- U-Turn at the Dead End
- Right on Duke
- Across Bridge
- Up the looong hill through Rhodhiss
- Left on Main
- Back to A/O
The course mapped to be 5.5 miles when I mapped it yesterday, but in actuality it was about 5.1. Some dudes ran a bit extra to get the intended mileage. Hat Trick stayed with the slow guy (me) all the way to the turn around. Then I released him and he ran like a beast all the way up that 2.5 mile hill. And then he ran an extra mile for the heck of it. He has a marathon coming up in March so he needed the miles.
Coming up the loooong hill through Rhodhiss at the rear of the pack was enjoyable for me today. From that vantage point I could see all the guys with their blinky lights and vests spread out all up the hill. It was like poetry in motion right there on Duke Street in Rhodhiss.
The Full Moon provided a bit of extra needed illumination this morning. The pace provided the heat we needed. While crossing over the bridge we could see the dam at Lake Rhodhiss and it was lit up and looking rather pretty.
It was a good way to start my day – in Granite Falls and surrounding area with my Caldwell friends.
Until next time,
Cropduster out!
