Backstory:  some of you may already know this, but I’m a fairly impulsive guy.  Here’s an example:

Last Sunday afternoon.  Text to Powder (time stamps are pretty accurate):

2:55pm: Hey, I’m going up to Moses Cone to check out a trail option for Mortimer.  Let me know if want to go.

3:01pm:  Sounds interesting, what time are you leaving?

3:02pm:  Sorry, I’m already in Lenoir.  Next time.

More backstory:  this spring, Fuse, Retread, Suppository, and HBC ran our local mountain of a hill Eleanor 50 times in one morning.  There was discussion.  There was planning.  Fuse made a cool storyboard to show how many laps each man ran.  It was cool.  I was injured so I didn’t participate.  But I showed up anyway, ran a couple laps, and cooked those dudes some bacon while they went balls deep in Eleanor.  The whole time they were running, I was thinking to myself:  “Self, sometime this year you should not tell anyone and just do 51 laps on your own.’  Not as a F You to them, although it would probably have come off that way, but just as a subtle poke at their pride.  In my mind, I was thinking that it would be a way to push them to do 52 or more laps.  My plan was to just do it, post it to Strava and wait for some reactions.  Looking back on it, it’s a pretty Asshole move….which by the way, comes naturally to me.

But since diving deep into Q Source discussions and trying to be as Nantan’ish, and HIM’y as possible, I realize that that’s not the right thing to do.  So instead, I’m following a fairly impulsive pattern by announcing this:

This Saturday morning:  9/26/20

Start time:  05:00

What:  Eleanor 51 laps.  Give or take a dozen.

Why:  Because it’s there*

Who:  Everyone is invited

* This was the original reason, but I’m not Sir Edmund Hillary.  Being the Deep Thinking Nantan that I am** about 10 minutes ago – somewhere between shoveling leftover chicken and shoveling Doritos in mouth – I decided to make this event something more than just showing the Original 50 Lappers what I was made of.

As you should all know by now, our brothers in Conover are hosting 36 Hours of Joy as a fundraiser to help start a building campaign for a church in Catawba.  So as a primer for this event, I’m pledging $2.00 for every ascent of Eleanor that I do.  You can do the same and run 2 laps.  Or 100 laps.  Or you can pledge a dollar amount for how many laps I do.  Or if you want to get really sick and twisted, you can start a bet pool as to which lap I die on and give that for your fundraiser.  Either way, let’s have some fun and get this campaign started off right….balls deep in Eleanor.

**I’m not a Deep Thinking Nantan, but sometimes cool stuff comes to my giant head and stays in there for more than 5 minutes.
