First and foremost, the Race Committee doesn’t want you to run this race. Go home. There is no picking up the six. There are simply just too many hills. Nasty ones too. There will be Mountain Goat legs. We start at a place called Tater Hole. And end on a Knob. The in between parts are not favorable. You don’t know DoodleySquat about this area. Maybe we should keep it that way. Just stay home watching Looney Tunes in your footed PJ’s, we’ll take a picture for you.
Disclaimer: The Race Committee is not professional. You are here on your own free will. There are no representations with regard to the skill level or competency of the Race Committee or to the safety of the routes. If you run this relay, you assume all risks and will not hold the Race Committee responsible for anything that happens before, during, or after the race. Plus, RC doesn’t want you to run this anyway. But if you do, relay safety protocol will be followed. Anyone not wearing running vests and lights during specified times will be disqualified. Details like that to come. No need in giving those just yet because you aren’t running this relay anyway.

Stop reading.
Turn around.
This isn’t for you.
You aren’t wanted.
Still reading? Ok, fine. Just make sure you re-read that disclaimer. While this is a relay, it’s a relay by definition only. SMR, BRR and P200 this is not. Think basic. No frills. No pre-race dinner. No free t-shirt (likely will have a t-shirt to order, however). No beer or food ticket on your bib. Heck at this point, the Race Committee isn’t sure if any of the exchange zones will have Portajohns. Also the RC isn’t sure if there will be directional signs. Note: study your routes….and bring your own TP. Just stop here and go sign up for The Banker 5K. I hear it’s a doozy.
This relay is going to cover some of the most underrated spots in western NC. No chance you’ve been to Tater Hole. RC doubts you know about Hibriten Mountain. RC also thinks that you don’t know much about Wilson Creek. How about Betsey’s Country Store? Collettsville? Roseborough? No dice. But you will after this relay. And you can thank RC later too. But seriously, just stop while you’re ahead and go run a St. Paddy’s Dad 10K instead. You aren’t ready for this.

There have been questions about rucking this relay. That’s a TBD. If you’re serious about it, you may be staring down the barrel of a Friday night start. Holla if that’s your bag.
Footnote:
This relay has been rattling around in the Race Committee’s head for about a year now. Number One priority for choosing these routes is to keep you safe. Despite that, there are still sections that aren’t perfect and will require you and your teammates to look out for oncoming traffic and run as far off the road as possible. Be safe out there. Number Two priority is that RC tried to include as many hills as possible between Hickory and Boone. Or at least the worst ones. Some were missed, but not many. Routes may change between now and March, so pay attention to any incoming emails. Number Two.Five: there is going to be a limit to the number of teams that will be allowed to run this year’s race. HC now and get your team together because that limit is small. Race Committee isn’t going to reveal that number until capacity is reached. If you don’t make the cut, you can drive on up to Howard’s Knob, wait for the Race Committee to cross the lane, and make me a Finish Line Sammich. Number Three: have fun and enjoy this wild section of Western NC. It really is a special place….and don’t forget to buy a hot dog at Betsey’s Store. They just taste better out there.
Thanks for your interest.
