QIC:  Goodwill

Howitzer’s been meeting for months temporarily in the vast parking lot by the playground while Union Square has been under renovation. But we made our return to the sails this morning, even if the Howitzer itself hasn’t yet (completion TBD).

Conditions: Muggy, but clear

0530 – Warmup – SSH x 15 IC, Windmill x 15 IC, Imperial Storm Troopers x 15 IC

The Thang:

Mosey across square to parking lot in front of Craft Beer Cellar, etc – PAX each pick up a rock by the RR tracks, circle up. Curls x 20 OYO > Pass rock to the PAX to the right (a-la Whipping Stick at the cul-de-sac) > Bent Over Rows x 20 > Pass > Overhead Press x 20 > Pass > On your 6 > American Hammer (here’s where you find out who chose a pansy rock) x 10/ea side > Pass > Bench Press x 20 > Pass > Skull Crushers x 20. Return rocks.

Mosey back to square, head down alley to parking deck beside Crossfit. At low wall, Incline Merkins x 15 IC, Tricep Dips x 15 IC. Partner up. Partner 1 does BLIMPS exercises, AMRAP, while Partner B runs up stairs and a lap around parking deck. Switch. Interestingly…group A ran clockwise around parking deck, group B ran counter-clockwise. P.S…we had 15, Crossfit had about 4…inside…in the A/C.

Mosey up hill & around corner back toward the square. Back to the parking lot with rocks. PAX choose a rock again & repeat exercises from above. Add Mary – WWII Situps x 20, Freddie Mercury x 20 IC, Box Cutters x 15 IC.

Mosey across tracks to brick wall in front of Hong Kong Cafe. Incline Merkins x 12 IC, Tricep Dips x 15 IC, Step Ups x 10/ea side, Decline Merkins x 10 IC.

Mosey down Trade Alley & back around to Sails. Circle Up, on your six. Funyun called Plank x 30 sec. Sheamus called Jane Fondas x 10/ea side. Cuz informed whoever was downrange that he was going comando. There was a weird moment when Pump and Swanson realized they were 69 spooning… Recover.

Count off. Name-o-rama.

WOD:

From the Q Source – Daily Red Pill. I’m grateful for the impact F3 has had on my life, and I was squarely in the Sad Clown camp 5 years ago, with further deceleration extremely likely without a change.

“The boats of some men have been so long capsized that they have gradually surrendered to a life of being swept downstream by circumstance. Having lost the ability to make headway, they become fully focused on mere survival. We call these men Sad Clowns and their affliction Sad Clown Syndrome .

The symptoms of Sad Clown Syndrome are subtle, so the malady can be difficult to diagnose. The Sad Clown may not be chronically obese—but he is not physical fit, lacking in strength, speed, stamina and toughness. He may not be alone—but he is lonely, living bereft of meaningful male friendships. He may not be unemployed—but he lacks true purpose, having no clear vision, belief system or direction governing the things he does or fails to do. The Sad Clown may seem happy on the outside—but that is only what he seems to be, not what he is.”

I challenged each man to bring an FNG. To be a disrupter in the life of another man. To give away what we’ve discovered and come to value. They need it, they may not even know it, but they do. I sure did.

Announcements:

Launch of The Tower in Hildebran is next Monday, Oct 7. No ER workout that day, Hickory guys turn up and support the newest AO in the region.

P.S.:

1) Igloo made an appearance. He’s the guy who worked on me for a long time and brought me to F3. Good to see him back out after a while

2) The gym by the parking lot where we picked up the rocks has closed. Crossfit Hickory moved downtown not long ago, and interesting seeing just a couple people in there at 6am. Not wishing for any of these places to close, but interesting that F3 is growing, while traditional gyms are coming and going.

3) How ’bout Swanson and Pumpernickel turning out like 3-4 times/wk consistently… Props to you fellas

4) Jordache is an animal… Enough said
