After some technical difficulties…my first BB!
I don’t know if surrendering my VQ card at a workout called Organ Grinder was how I imagined my first time would be. You know you always build those things up in your mind to unrealistic levels. Nonetheless…I had planned, prayed, and dreamed up a pretty solid workout.
5 men posted on what was one of the gloomiest, foggiest, sketchiest mornings I’ve seen. The distant amber streetlights from Arby’s and the shapes of what Cousin Eddie reminded us last week were called “Arrrr Veees” didn’t help matters. Still the sketchiest AO around! At 5:30 on the dot we hit it –
Warm Up:
SSHs x 15 IC
ATTs x 15 IC
Humpys x 15 IC
Blood starting to flow so we mosey down the dark road past the sketchy bar with the ever-lit blue light inside, on to the Burke Co sign. We’re not in Kansas anymore…
The Thang:
Burpees x 5 OYO
Merkins x 10 IC
LBCs x 20 IC
Was that an animal I heard? A person? Hard to tell in the dark foggy gloom. Mosey the heck out of there back up the road, past the bar, to the bottom of the ‘humpy’ parking lot hill.
Ladders up and down the hill were next. Burpees at the bottom, Merkins at the middle ‘hump’ in the parking lot, and Star Jumps at the top of the hill in this order:
1x Burpee, 1x Merkin, 1x Star Jump up the hill – jog back to the bottom.
2x Burpees, 2x Merkins, 2x Star Jumps up the hill – jog back to the bottom.
Nevermind that SUV parked way on the side of the lot under the trees…is somebody in there? Nothing to see here…
Continue on with 3x exercises, then 4x, then 5x up and down each time. Planned to go to 10x/ea exercise…we were all smoked at about 7, so I called an audible and cut it off after 8x/ea exercise.
Catch our breath while we mosey on up the hill to the playground.
At the blue dome/climber/igloo thing we climbed under for 10x Body Weight Rows OYO. Then outside it for 10x Decline Merkins OYO. Rise and Repeat.
Mosey up the hill, around the corner and past the Army Reserve place to the upper Parking Lot above the tennis courts. Since my drive-around right before the workout, there was a new car parked at the end of the lot, backed into a space with the back windows fogged up… Sketch-O. Dude was sitting in the driver’s seat like he was waiting on something(someone). We were all creeped out so we stopped just barely into the lot under the only streetlight. Everybody on your 6.
WWII Situps x 10 IC
Freddie Mercurys x 15 IC
6 inches (hmm?) – hold for 30 sec
Transition to 45 deg – Hold for 20 sec. Recover
Wondering if we had interrupted something, we skee-daddled out of there to jog back the direction we came, around the corner and back down the hill past the playground. Quick stop at the softball field bleachers –
Tricep Dips x 10 OYO
Flip over for Incline Merkins x 10 OYO
Rinse and Repeat.
Mosey back to the bottom of the hill to the starting parking lot. Circle up and on your 6.
My memory is a little sketchy here (maybe the dim light and fog affected me more than I knew). We did some more ab stuff.
Maybe LBCs x 20 IC
I know American Hammer x 15 IC
Something else…
We had a couple minutes left so I asked for special requests. Phlegm suggested an Indian Run to Burke Co and back, so we took off down the dark road again. 5 men in the line, last guy drops and does 5 Merkins, then sprints to head of the line, and so forth. We ran till we all got a round in (and we couldn’t see 5-ft in front of our faces), and turned around for another round coming back. Good suggestion Phlegm, and finished right on time.
Circle up for Count, Name-o-rama, and WOD.
WOD –
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Don’t let your surroundings, the people you associate with, and the greater world, to influence you in a negative way. Choose to be the influence on the world around you. God chose you to be a light, to carry his message. Whether your work is to bring people to the Lord, or just to share a kind word, choose to influence the world around you in a positive way.
