I had a particular theme in mind today, so I wanted to do something a little different. Challenge a few guys, push it a little to stretch us in areas maybe we haven’t in a while.

Conditions: 58, clear. Perfect early fall morning

Warmup: Windmill x 10 IC, Imperial Storm Troopers x 15 IC, Plank Jacks x 15 IC, SSH x 15 IC

The Thang

Mosey to back/side parking lot of Corinth church to low rock wall. Find a podna.

Partner 1 works at the wall while partner 2 run to end of parking lot, does 5 Star Jumps, runs back & switch. Exercises at wall (all AMRAP) – Incline Merkins, Step Ups, Tricep Dips, Squats, Decline Merkins. The mumblechatter cranked up as I mentioned each exercise. Grumbles about how ‘long’ the run was…etc.

Mosey past flag & across the road to Viewmont Elem playground. Here I explained we’d be doing partner exercises at 5 stations around the track. (more grumbles, mumblechatter, blah blah…) 1- Swerkins/Mike Tysons (feet in a swing – do a merkin, then pull legs up/in to your chest, that’s 1) x 30 per team 2- Pullups x 20/team 3- LBCs x 150/team 4- Lunges x 100/team 5- Freddie Mercury x 100/team.

Mosey out to Viewmont Elem parking lot. Lunge walk halfway. Karaoke a ways, switch sides & karaoke to the end. Karaoke back to start, switching sides. Neon Deon (run backwards, turn around halfway & sprint to end) across parking lot. Repeat Neon Deons back to start.

As we started to mosey back across the road, Beaker mentioned the pumpkin patch at the corner of St. Lukes on 127. Good suggestion, I’d forgotten about that. Jog to pumpkin patch, grab a pumpkin & do 25 curls. Herniator chose one the size of a beach ball…he’s a machine (they weren’t that heavy).

Mosey back to flag for circle of Mary until 0615. Kapo called Boat/Canoes, Doodles called Big Boy Situps, Retread called his Low Plank/Knee Bend/Hip thing, Pump called Box Cutters. 0615. Recover.

Word of the Day:

I’d just listened to the F3 Nation podcast yesterday on Contentment and it really impacted me, though not necessarily the part about contentment. They spoke about Durability and how F3 helps all of us get stronger and be better prepared for the unexpected, the challenges that are sure to come.

Durability – The physical & emotional toughness fostered through deliberate and repeated exposure to hardship & chaos.

Why do we work out at 0530 and not 0800? Why always outside? Why when it’s cold or raining?

Why not have a list of exercises posted for the workout?

Our culture believes in Personal Comfort all the time. That no one should experience hardship, or be ‘triggered’, that we need ‘safe spaces’. So many people these days don’t know how to handle adversity b/c they’ve never had to. They avoid difficulty and when it inevitably comes, hope for the best. But we’re Pros, we know that the High Impact Man prepares before-hand for adversity, because he knows it’s coming. He isn’t surprised. The decision about how you’ll respond to adversity has to be made long before-hand. If you wait until it comes, it’s too late to prepare yourself.

Tooth Fairy added how important that is for relationships too. That by sharing and getting through the adversity of these workouts together, we encourage and strengthen each other.

I appreciate you men that help sharpen me. I know I wouldn’t push myself to grow the way the group does.
